<h1>Buying a Used DSMLink (V1/V2) or ECMLink (V3) Package</h1> <div class="level1"> <p> If you're looking to buy a used DSMLink (V1/V2) or ECMLink (V3) package or you're looking to buy a car that's supposed to include either, then please make sure you're actually getting a complete package. If you are not, you may not be eligible for support or upgrades. The chip is <b>NOT</b> the DSMLink "package". The OBDII adapter is the key component. <a href="/wiki/doku.php?id=2gcable" class="wikilink1" title="2gcable">This page</a> has more details. </p> <p> When buying an older V1/V2 2G DSMLink package, please make SURE you are getting one of the adapters pictured to the right. </p> <p> You need to also check that the adapter is not one of the similar-looking counterfeit adapters and that the chip appears to be one of our chips. </p> <p> You can get information on all these counterfeit packages off the following page. </p> <p> <a href="/wiki/doku.php?id=counterfeitcopies" class="wikilink1" title="counterfeitcopies">Counterfeit Copies</a> </p> <p> I can't say it enough, so I'll say it again. If you are not getting an OBDII adapter like the one pictured here with your 2G V1/V2 DSMLink purchase, then you are NOT getting a complete DSMLink package and you will not be eligible for support or upgrades of any sort. It's just too easy for people to screw us over if we allow simple chip purchases to qualify for full support and upgrades. We used to be more lenient, but people started taking advantage of our policies and we had to stop. </p> </div> <h2>1G (1990-1994) V2 DSMLink (there are no 1G V1 DSMLink packages)</h2> <div class="level2"> <p> This package is pretty easy. You just need to make sure you're getting a memory board and chip and you should be set. The only thing you need to check for is the red V3 flash module pictured here. As long as that's included (and functional), you're good to go. The V3 cable is not considered a critical item.
